The Last Supper – Stylised Pyrography

This unique woodburned artwork reimagines the timeless scene of the Last Supper in a bold, stylised form. Created through the ancient technique of pyrography, the piece carries a raw, tactile quality, with every line seared into the grain of the wood.

In this interpretation, the composition features eleven apostles gathered around Christ, inviting viewers to reflect on themes of absence, presence, and the shifting narratives within sacred tradition. The simplicity of the lines, combined with the warmth of the burnt wood, gives the work both a contemporary edge and a timeless, devotional resonance.

Note: This illustration is based on the wrought iron motif on the altar of the 12th station (Via Sagra) in Valinhos, Fátima). It is pyrographed onto a wooden plaque.

Hi! This is Joseph Canisius Dias, author of the book. I’m a cartoonist and illustrator, originally from Goa and now living in Portugal. This book is my love letter to the Goa I grew up in — a world of winding village roads, mango trees,  monsoons, family weddings, colonial remnants, and cultural chaos — all seen through the eyes of a kid,  a teenager, and now, a reflective adult. This is not just a cartoon book. It’s my life, my memories — and probably  yours too if you’ve ever called Goa “home.”  What’s in the Book? “Jodi’s Goa- UP THE MANDOVI AND DOWN THE ZUARI” is a 200-page, A4-sized cartoon memoir filled with hand-drawn cartoons, sketches, and illustrated anecdotes.
